Tandem Ultrasonic Technique
Tandem ultrasonic technique uses two ultrasonic probes for precise measurement of weld thickness and quality. It improves accuracy and allows more detailed analysis.
How It Works (Physical-Chemical Mechanism)
Tandem ultrasonic testing uses two probes: one probe head touches the weld directly, the other sits a short distance away. The difference in ultrasonic impedance between the two probes is measured to determine weld thickness and quality.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This method lets you check weld thickness and quality more precisely. If you set it up wrong or measure inaccurately, you'll get bad results, which leads to wrong decisions in quality control.
Workshop Practice & How-To
Use the tandem ultrasonic technique with two probes: one directly on the weld, the other set 1-2 mm away. Make sure both probes are aligned correctly and that you measure in a quiet environment. Results should fall within the specified tolerances.
