Thermal overload protection for welding power sources

A protection system that automatically shuts off the welding power source if the windings or power semiconductors overheat. Prevents thermal damage and fire hazards.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The thermal overload protection for welding power sources continuously monitors the temperature of the windings or power semiconductors. When a certain temperature threshold is exceeded, the system signals an overload condition and automatically shuts down the power source.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

If the temperature gets too high, the windings or power semiconductors can be damaged, leading to thermal destruction. This can cause fire hazards and permanent loss of function of the welding source. The thermal overload protection prevents these risks by reacting quickly.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Install the thermal overload protection in the welding power source and make sure it is properly calibrated. Regularly check the system's function through manual tests or automatic maintenance programs. If you notice signs of temperature anomalies or if the system no longer responds, carry out a thorough inspection and repair.
