Sherardizing

Corrosion protection process in which zinc dust diffuses into the surface of steel parts at elevated temperatures, producing a hard, corrosion-resistant iron-zinc diffusion layer.

Thermochemical diffusion galvanizing is a process in which zinc diffuses into the steel surface at high temperature. The result is a hard, corrosion-resistant layer that adheres well. When welding, be careful: the zinc layer burns off and can lead to pores and cracks. Before welding, grind off the layer generously in the weld area. After welding, you can treat the area with zinc paint or cold galvanizing spray to restore corrosion protection.
