Thermographic Induction Crack Testing
Combination of electromagnetic induction and infrared thermography for rapid crack detection via local Joule heating at the flanks. Induced current flow concentrates at crack tips, generating measurable temperature gradients.
This is inductive crack testing with a thermal imaging camera. You generate a magnetic field in the part with a coil, which creates eddy currents. At cracks or material separations, these currents pile up and the material heats up more locally there. The thermal camera then shows you these hot spots as flashes or points. You have to align the exciter and the camera so that you have a good view of the surface and the heating is uniform. You evaluate directly on the screen; the hot spots are the defects.
