Titanium Alpha-Beta Microstructure Morphology
Two-phase microstructure consisting of hexagonal alpha grains and body-centered cubic beta regions tailored through thermomechanical processing to achieve an optimal strength-to-toughness ratio.
Titanium with an alpha-beta structure is a classic material for high-strength components. When welding, you have to be careful not to destroy the structure. If you put in too much heat or cool incorrectly, you lose the good mechanical properties. So keep the heat input low and controlled to preserve the fine grain structure. Weld only with clean shielding gas, otherwise the material becomes brittle and you get cracks.
