Titanium Alpha-Beta Alloy

Titanium alpha-beta alloys are high-performance titanium alloys with high strength levels and good formability. They are used in aerospace and medical technology.

Alpha-beta titanium is a mix of two microstructure phases that form during melting and cooling. It's easy to form, but when welding you gotta watch out: if you don't manage the heat properly and control the cooling, the structure flips and the weld gets brittle or cracks. Key is to avoid overheating the weld zone and control cooling so the desired structure reforms. Use clean material and weld under shielding gas, otherwise the weld picks up oxygen and becomes brittle. After welding, inspect the weld for cracks and distortion—if something's off, the heat wasn't right.
