Titanium-Aluminum-Vanadium System

The most technologically significant titanium alloy system, offering an optimal combination of low density, high strength, and fracture toughness. It dominates structural applications in aviation.

Titanium-aluminum-vanadium is a high-strength alloy that you must keep clean and under inert shielding gas when welding. The material is prone to embrittlement if it comes into contact with oxygen or nitrogen at high temperatures. Therefore, weld only with TIG and sufficient trailing gas, and ensure an absolutely clean surface. Cooling should be controlled and slow to avoid forming hard, brittle structures. After welding, heat treatment may be necessary to restore the desired strength values.
