Titanium beta stabilizer
An alloying element such as vanadium, molybdenum, or iron that stabilizes the body-centered cubic beta-phase field and delays transformation.
Beta stabilizers keep the beta structure in the heat-affected zone stable during welding, otherwise it transforms to alpha and the weld becomes hard and brittle. You have to control the cooling so that the transformation doesn't start too early. Watch the right alloy and proper heat management, otherwise you'll get cracks. It's a balancing act between strength and toughness that you have to manage via the welding parameters.
