Titanium Beta Transus Control

The precise thermal management of titanium alloys around the phase transformation temperature to intentionally adjust the ratio of alpha to beta phases. This optimizes the property profile combining strength and elongation at break.

When welding titanium, you have to keep an eye on the beta transus – that's the temperature at which the structure changes from alpha to beta phase. If you cool too fast, the material becomes hard and brittle; if you cool too slowly, you lose strength. The trick is to control the cooling to get a clean, homogeneous structure. Make sure the heat-affected zone doesn't overheat and the weld cools evenly, then the part will withstand the load.
