Titanium Diffusion Bonding

Solid-state joining process under the influence of temperature and pressure, in which a seamless joint without a melting phase is created through atomic exchange processes.

In diffusion welding of titanium, you join the parts in the solid state – nothing melts. It runs under pressure and heat, atoms migrate across the joint and form a homogeneous bond. If the parameters are not right, the seam will be nothing – then you get pores or incomplete bonding that breaks under load. Process control is the be-all and end-all, this is not for quick patching. You need a proper machine that regulates pressure and temperature cleanly, and the joint surfaces must be absolutely clean and flat. If you set it up cleanly, you get a seam that approaches the base material in mechanical properties.
