Titanium Grade 5 Alloy

The widely used alpha-beta alloy Ti-6Al-4V offering an optimal balance of strength, fracture toughness, and corrosion resistance.

Titanium Grade 5 is a classic among alpha-beta alloys and is basically weldable, but you gotta respect it. The thing is, the material is extremely sensitive to contamination, so you have to shield the weld zone and heat-affected zone cleanly with shielding gas – and also on the back side, otherwise it'll get brittle and crack on you. Let the cooling happen controlled, not too fast, so no hard, unstable structure forms. Keep the heat input moderate and clamp the workpiece properly, then you'll have less distortion and stress in the part.
