Titanium Grade 5 Superplasticity
The property of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy to undergo extremely large plastic deformations without necking at specific elevated temperatures and low strain rates.
Superplasticity in Ti-6Al-4V is a special case: the microstructure can be extremely deformed under certain conditions without cracking. When welding, however, this is rarely an issue – it's usually about normal forming. If you want to use it, you have to keep temperature and strain rate exactly in the window. Too cold or too fast, and the material will tear immediately. That's not for rough workshop feel, it needs precise control.
