Titanium Lamellar Microstructure

A microstructure type in titanium alloys resulting from cooling from the high-temperature beta region, consisting of fine alpha lamellae within prior beta grains. This microstructure is characterized by high fracture toughness and creep resistance.

Titanium lamellar structure forms when the alloy cools slowly from the beta range. Fine alpha lamellae develop in the former beta grains. This structure is tough and creep-resistant, so you want it for highly loaded parts. If you cool too fast during welding or the material is contaminated, you'll get a different, more brittle structure instead. So: work clean and let the cooling run in a controlled manner, then it'll be fine.
