Titanium-Molybdenum Alloy

A specialty beta titanium alloy that exhibits high phase stability at room temperature and improved forming properties due to the molybdenum addition. It finds application in flexible surgical instruments.

Titanium-molybdenum alloys are tricky in welding. The molybdenum content makes the structure more stable, but you still have to be careful not to put too much heat in. Otherwise you get cracks or the part warps.

It's important that the weld area is absolutely clean and grease-free. And the shielding gas area must be generous so that no oxygen gets to it. If you don't hit the parameters cleanly, the structure becomes brittle and breaks away under load.
