Titanium welding wire
A high-purity filler material for joining titanium alloys under strict exclusion of oxygen and nitrogen. It requires the use of specialized trailing shields and backing gases to prevent embrittlement.
Titanium is a hot topic: as soon as it comes into contact with oxygen or nitrogen from the air during welding, it becomes brittle and cracks. So you have to completely shield the weld and the heat-affected zone with shielding gas (argon or helium) – not just from above with the torch nozzle, but also from below with a backing gas purge. Only then will the weld stay tough and tight.
