Titanium weld gas shielding
The strictly mandatory, continuous purging of titanium weld joints with inert gases such as high-purity argon, both in the molten pool area and on the cooling root side and trailing shield, to prevent any embrittlement due to oxygen absorption.
When welding titanium, you absolutely have to watch the gas shielding, otherwise the hot metal will draw oxygen from the air and become brittle and crack-prone. So you need proper argon flushing, not just on the top of the weld, but also on the root and the trailing side. Only when the material has cooled down again may the shield be removed. If you don't do this cleanly, you might as well grind the weld off again.
