Titanium stabilization against intergranular corrosion
Binding of carbon by titanium in austenitic steels to prevent chromium depletion at grain boundaries and thus susceptibility to corrosion.
Titanium binds the carbon in the melt, so the chromium stays evenly distributed in the structure and you don't get chromium depletion at the grain boundaries. That would otherwise be the reason for intergranular corrosion, especially if the component later works hot or in an aggressive environment. So you use a stabilized material, watch the titanium content in the filler metal, and keep the heat input low during welding. Then the structure stays stable and the part stays tight.
