Titanium Superplastic Bending Forming

Forming process at elevated temperatures where titanium alloys exhibit extreme elongations without necking to manufacture complex geometries.

In superplastic forming of titanium, the material is heated so much that it can be deformed extremely without tearing. You use this to get complex components in one piece instead of welding them. But the process is tricky: if the temperature isn't right, you'll distort the part or get wrinkles. So you have to keep the temperature constant and keep an eye on the workpiece. Also, make sure the hot titanium doesn't come into contact with oxygen, or it becomes brittle and you'll have problems.
