Titanium superplastic forming
A hot-forming process for fine-grained titanium sheets at elevated temperatures and low strain rates, where the material undergoes extremely high elongations without local necking to produce complex component geometries.
Titanium superplastic forming is a sheet metal forming process, not a welding process. The titanium is stretched very slowly at high temperature so it can be deformed extremely far without local thinning or tearing. You need a clean, controlled atmosphere because titanium otherwise picks up oxygen and nitrogen immediately at that high temperature and becomes brittle. If you confuse it with welding: nothing is melted here; the material stays solid and is formed by 'flowing'.
