Titanium Superplasticity Window

A narrowly defined temperature and strain rate range where titanium alloys exhibit extremely high elongation without necking, utilized for complex hot-forming operations.

Titanium alloys can become superplastic under certain conditions, meaning they can be deformed extensively without tearing. This depends on temperature and the rate of deformation. If you fall out of the right window, the material becomes brittle and tears. For welding, this means you have to control heat input and cooling, otherwise you get stresses and cracks in the part. When doing such forming, work slowly and evenly to keep the material workable.
