Titanium Aluminide Intermetallic Microstructure

A lightweight and high-strength microstructure based on $\text{TiAl}$ compounds for extreme thermal stresses in aero-engines, characterized by high specific stiffness.

Titanium aluminides are intermetallic materials that you can't treat like normal steel. They're brittle and extremely sensitive to contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, or hydrogen. When welding, you must keep the parts strictly under shielding gas, otherwise the structure will immediately become porous and crack-prone.
