Titanium-Vanadium Beta Eutectoid

A phase transformation in titanium alloys where the body-centered cubic high-temperature phase decomposes into specific structural components upon cooling.

Titanium alloys with beta-eutectoid formers like vanadium are tricky when welding. The phase transition depends heavily on the cooling rate. If you cool the part too fast after welding, you get a hard, brittle structure. If it's too slow, you can get precipitates that kill toughness. So you have to control the cooling, then the structure is fine and the part holds.
