Ultrasonic Immersion Testing Technique
A coupling method in which the test object and the ultrasonic probe are completely immersed in a water bath to ensure constant acoustic coupling. This is particularly suitable for automated inspections of semi-finished products and rotationally symmetrical parts.
In ultrasonic immersion testing, the part is immersed in a water bath, which ensures uniform coupling of the probe. You mainly need this for automated testing of semi-finished products or rotationally symmetric parts. If the water is dirty or has too much air in it, you quickly lose coupling and miss defects. Keep the bath clean and make sure the probe is properly aligned. You don't have to be fussy about temperature, but extreme cold or heat can distort the measurement.
