Ultrasonic Plastic Through-Transmission Welding
A thermoplastic joining method where ultrasonic waves are transmitted through an upper component to generate melt via interfacial friction specifically at the underlying joint plane. This enables aesthetic joining of visible parts without mechanical surface damage.
In ultrasonic welding, you bring the parts into contact and let the sonotrode apply high-frequency vibrations. The friction at the joint surface generates the heat that locally melts the plastic and joins the parts. Make sure the joint surfaces are clean and flat, otherwise the joint won't work. The energy and pressure must match the part geometry – too much of either will damage the surface or squeeze the material away. If the setting is right, you get a clean, fast joint without additional materials.
