Ultrasonic seam welding
A continuous solid-state joining process utilizing disk-shaped sonotrodes to introduce ultrasonic vibrations into thin sheets or foils to produce overlapping hermetic seals.
Ultrasonic roll seam welding joins thin sheets or foils by high-frequency vibrations into a continuous, tight seam. The material is mechanically deformed and welded without strong local heating – this prevents pores and distortion. When setting up the machine, make sure amplitude and contact pressure match the material. If the pressure is too high, you push through or tear the material. If the amplitude is wrong, the seam won't be tight or will be irregular. The joining partners must be clean and free of contaminants, otherwise the seam won't hold. Check the seam regularly for uniformity, then the part runs.
