Unalloyed Solid Wire Electrode

Unalloyed solid wire is a filler metal for structural steels, used without additional alloying. It ensures stable wire feeding and maintains mechanical properties in gas-shielded welding.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Solid unalloyed wire consists of pure steel without additional chemical additives. It is typically made from high-grade HSS (High Strength Steel), offering high strength and durability.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks During Welding

Using unalloyed solid wire can lead to improved corrosion resistance, since there are no additional alloys that might corrode under certain conditions. However, the risk of hot cracking and weld embrittlement increases if the wire is not guided correctly or if the welding parameters are not optimally set.

Workshop Practice & Actions

Use unalloyed solid wire for gas-shielded welding of structural steels to ensure high mechanical strength and durability of the weld. Make sure the wire is guided correctly and the welding parameters (temperature, voltage, time) are adhered to. An optimal wire feed speed is typically 10-20 m/min, depending on specific materials and component geometry.
