Irregular ripple spacing

Irregular ripple spacing occurs when the solidification ripples are at uneven distances, indicating an unstable process and fluctuating quality.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Irregular rippling forms through uneven spacing of the solidification ripples. This can be due to unstable arc conditions or irregular feed.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Irregular rippling leads to uneven solidification of the weld. This can lead to cracks, distortion and reduced toughness of the material. The quality of the weld is weakened.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To avoid irregular rippling, pay attention to a stable arc and a constant feed speed. Keep the voltage and the gas flow profile constant. In severe cases, adjusting the welding parameters or changing the welding process may be needed.
