Single-Wire Submerged Arc Welding

Submerged arc single wire welding is a mechanized welding process with an arc under flux protection. It offers high deposition rates and smooth welds.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The arc burns under a layer of granular welding flux, which restricts the air supply to the arc and stabilizes it. The flux also protects against corrosion and burning.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This process produces smooth, defect-free welds with high toughness and high resistance to mechanical stress. Wrong flux amount or insufficient shielding layer can lead to burn-through or corrosion.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the correct amount of flux (usually 0.5 to 1 g per cm²). Make sure the flux feed is continuous and even. Set the arc power to approximately 300 to 400 kW. Keep the flux container clean and dry.
