Submerged Arc Flux
Submerged arc welding flux completely covers the arc in SAW and controls slag formation through its chemical composition.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Submerged arc welding flux is made of fine metal particles that melt in the arc. They fully cover the arc and prevent direct contact between air and molten metal. This prevents porosity and improves weld strength.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Insufficient or missing flux can lead to porosity and poor slag formation, which weakens the weld. Too much flux, on the other hand, can cause excessive slag and uneven arc behavior.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
Always use the manufacturer's recommended flux in the correct ratio. The amount is usually given on the flux container or in the product catalog. You can adjust the amount slightly to meet specific needs, but make sure the flux always fully covers the arc.
