Single-V butt joint geometry
The V-groove geometry is a single-bevel weld joint with a V-shaped cross-section for medium plate thicknesses. It offers economical preparation and good accessibility for various processes.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The V-groove geometry has a V-shaped cross-section that offers a larger weld area than a simple square groove. This raises the strength and density of the weld.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The V-groove geometry is especially suited for medium sheet thicknesses and allows economical preparation. Wrong settings lead to uneven deformation or high stress build-up, which risks cracks and hardness problems.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use the V-groove geometry for sheet thicknesses between 2 mm and 6 mm. Make sure the angle of the V-shaped cross-section is set correctly (usually 45° to 60°). The weld should be easily accessible for manual and mechanized processes.
