Vacuum Chamber

A vacuum chamber is a pressure-tight enclosure in electron beam welding that creates the process atmosphere and releases the beam.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The vacuum chamber creates a high vacuum in the weld zone. This removes air molecules that would disturb the electron beam and lead to inaccurate welds.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without a vacuum chamber, the electron beam is disturbed, which leads to poor weld quality, irregular joints and possible cracks. A faulty vacuum can also shorten the life of the beam generator.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Make sure the vacuum chamber is correctly mounted and sealed. Check the vacuum pressure regularly (in mbar) and make sure it stays below 10^-3 mbar. With vacuum problems, contact the manufacturer or a qualified technician.
