Vanadium carbide distribution
The finely dispersed precipitation of vanadium carbides in ferrite during tempering or cooling. This leads to pronounced secondary hardening and minimizes grain growth.
Vanadium carbide forms in the melt and stays finely dispersed in the structure during cooling. This stuff prevents grain growth and gives the weld decent strength and toughness. But if you have too much vanadium in it, the material becomes prone to hot cracking. So watch out that you control the cooling, then you'll fully exploit the effect.
