Joining Welding
Welding is the permanent joining of parts by fusion welding, with or without filler material. The goal is a strong, material-locked connection.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Welding occurs by melting the metal(s) and/or filler materials, which then cool and solidify into a strong bond. This process creates a metallurgically homogeneous connection between the parts.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Wrong selection or application of filler materials can lead to uneven stresses and cracks. Too much heat or rapid cooling can alter the structure, affecting mechanical properties. A faulty welding process can also lead to corrosion issues or inadequate strength.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
• Choose the right filler material based on the metal and application.
• Ensure the weld is well prepared (clean, defect-free).
• Keep the temperature constant and avoid rapid cooling.
• Monitor the welding process and correct as needed.
