Welding Procedure Qualification Test

Procedure qualification verifies the suitability and control of a welding procedure through tests, ensuring the process delivers high quality.

Physical-chemical mechanism of action

Procedure qualification involves various testing methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT), X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), and mechanical tests. These methods serve to check the quality of the weld by detecting flaws or anomalies.

Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding

Inadequate procedure qualification can lead to defective weld results. This can cause cracks, wear, and reduced component life. Additionally, legal issues can arise if quality is not assured.

Workshop practice & instructions

For carrying out a procedure qualification, the following steps must be observed:

1. Selecting test methods: Choose suitable non-destructive and destructive testing methods based on the material and application.

2. Preparing the process: Make sure all welding parameters (temperature, voltage, time) are set correctly.

3. Conducting the test: Run the selected test methods and document the results carefully.

4. Evaluation and reporting: Analyze the test results and create a detailed report on the suitability of the welding process.
