Welding Procedure Qualification Record
The official document validating a welding procedure specification, containing all NDT and destructive test results of a test piece. It serves as proof that a procedure produces sound welds.
The procedure qualification record is your proof that the welding parameters match the material. Without it, you lack the approval and risk hard zones, hydrogen cracking, or brittle fracture. The report sets the binding values – preheat, interpass temperature, heat input, and any post-weld treatment. These must be strictly followed in production, otherwise the qualification is void. The report must be available to the welder as a work instruction before starting.
