deformation work

Deformation work is the energy expended during plastic deformation of a material. It is calculated as the area under the force-displacement curve in the deformation diagram.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Deformation work results from applying mechanical force to a material, causing it to deform plastically. This leads to shifting and reshaping of the material's atomic structure.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Excessive deformation work can lead to cracking or deterioration of mechanical properties. This is especially relevant for highly stressed components where strength and hardness are critical.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To achieve optimal deformation work, control welding speed and pressure. At highly stressed points, ensure uniform deformation and avoid overcritical stresses.
