Volumetric Flow Monitoring Sensor
A flow monitoring sensor continuously measures the minimum extraction velocity in pipes and issues warnings if the velocity drops too low.
Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action
A volumetric flow monitoring sensor uses an ultrasonic or Doppler sensor to measure the velocity of the flowing medium. It measures the echo of ultrasonic waves reflected from particles in the medium.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
If the extraction speed is too low, steel can coarsen and lose its toughness. This leads to an increased risk of cracks and hot cracks in the weld. A sensor helps to monitor the speed early and take action.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
Install the sensor at a suitable point in the pipeline. Set the minimum extraction speed according to material and process requirements (typically 0.5 m/s for steel). Regularly monitor the readings and make necessary corrections or repairs when the speed falls below the set minimum.
