Hot-Work Tool Steel

Alloyed tool steels engineered to maintain mechanical strength, wear resistance, and hardness during prolonged exposure to elevated operating temperatures.

Hot work tool steel contains additions like molybdenum and vanadium that keep the structure stable even at high operating temperatures. When welding, you have to be careful not to put in too much heat, otherwise the structure will flip and you'll get cracks or distortion. Keep the interpass temperature within limits and don't let the part cool down too rapidly after welding, then hardness and toughness will be maintained.
