Austempering
Heat treatment to produce a bainitic structure through isothermal holding in a salt bath.
Warm bath forging is a heat treatment step where you hold the workpiece in a hot salt bath. The salt holds the heat evenly and shields the surface from oxygen, preventing scale formation. You mainly do this for higher-alloy steels to relieve stresses and reduce the risk of cracking. It's important that the bath is really at temperature and you leave the part in long enough for it to heat through. If you run the bath too cold or too hot, you miss the purpose and ruin the structure.
