Hydrogen barrier flux

Hydrogen barrier powder is a moisture-sensitive welding flux that uses hygroscopic additives to minimize hydrogen pickup and prevent cascading cracks.

Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus

Hydrogen barrier powder contains special hygroscopic additives that absorb water vapor from the welding atmosphere and convert it into the powder. This prevents hydrogen molecules from diffusing into the metal crystals and causing cracks there.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without an effective hydrogen barrier, hydrogen can diffuse into the metals, leading to cascading crack formation. This can be especially dangerous at high temperatures and under stress. Using hydrogen barrier powder prevents these risks and improves weld safety.

Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen

Use hydrogen barrier powder in humid environments or when welding with high hydrogen content. Make sure the powder is dry and undamaged before use. Application volumes should follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure optimal effectiveness.
