Water jet nozzle wear
Waterjet nozzle wear occurs due to abrasion on the inner diameter of the focusing tube by rapidly accelerated particles. This leads to a widening of the waterjet and loss of accuracy.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The wear of the water jet nozzle occurs due to abrasion on the inner diameter of the focusing tube by rapidly accelerated particles. These particles alternate between solid and liquid, leading to a continuous erosion process.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Over time, wear can lead to widening of the water jet, which impairs focusing accuracy and cutting performance. This can result in inaccurate cut profiles or even tube breakage.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
To minimize wear, focusing tubes should be regularly inspected and replaced at the first signs of wear. The water jet speed should not exceed 100 m/s to reduce abrasion. In case of severe wear, the tube can be improved by fine polishing or even replacement.
