Water jet fanning degree

The divergence of the water-abrasive jet over the cutting depth, leading to a conical tapering of the kerf. It is caused by static pressure drop and particle dispersion.

The fan-out degree describes how much the water jet widens during cutting. If the jet fans out too much, the cut becomes unclean and the kerf irregular. This often happens when the pressure is off or the nozzle is worn. You need to set pressure and distance so that the jet stays focused and cuts cleanly through the material. Watch the cut and adjust until the result is even.
