Soft Annealing Carbide Coagulation

The targeted spheroidization of lamellar cementite structures into globular carbides at subcritical temperatures to minimize hardness. This optimizes the cold formability of difficult-to-machine steels.

Soft annealing is a heat treatment process where you relieve the structure and reduce hardness so that the material can be formed or machined better. During this process, you convert lamellar cementite into granular cementite, which makes the material softer and tougher. When welding afterwards, you need to be careful that the heat input is not too high, otherwise you will ruin the annealed structure again and get hard zones. Stick to the specified annealing temperatures and times, then you will get a uniform result.
