Soldering

A joining process for metals performed at working temperatures below 450 °C using low-melting solders. It primarily serves for electrical contacting or pressure-tight connection without high mechanical loads.

Soft soldering uses solders with a low melting point. The parts themselves are not melted, only the solder. The joint holds mechanically and conducts electricity well, but is not intended for high forces. It is important that the surfaces are clean and free of grease, otherwise the solder won't stick. You work at much lower temperatures than in welding, so the material doesn't glow. It's just right for electrical or sealed but not highly stressed joints.
