Material Test Certificate

A material test certificate is an official document from the manufacturer about the chemical composition and mechanical properties of a metal. It ensures the material meets standards and documents its quality.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism

A material test certificate contains data on the chemical composition (such as zinc content or carbon content) and mechanical properties (such as hardness or tensile strength). This information is obtained through laboratory tests that analyze the alloy content and the metal's microstructure.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

The certificate is crucial for selecting the right welding processes and materials. Wrong values can lead to insufficient mechanical properties of the weld, causing cracks or failures in service. Without a valid certificate, there's a risk that the materials don't meet the specified requirements and the quality of the overall system is compromised.

Shop Practice & Actions

Before using metals, a valid material test certificate must be on hand. Check certificates regularly for validity and compatibility with the chosen welding processes. If needed, have the materials retested to ensure they meet the necessary specifications.
