GTAW High-Frequency Ignition Unit

A TIG high-frequency ignition unit generates an arc by high voltage without electrode contact. It is suitable for deep weld locations and high-performance applications.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The TIG high-frequency ignition device creates an arc by applying high voltage to a gas (e.g., carbon dioxide). The high frequency of voltage spikes ensures rapid discharge and strong ignition without direct contact between electrodes.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

The TIG ignition device is especially useful for hard-to-reach weld spots since it requires no mechanical contact. However, it can cause issues if the gas supply is disrupted or if the gas is not set correctly. This can lead to irregular ignition and poor weld results.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

• Gas supply: Make sure the gas (e.g., carbon dioxide) flows continuously and is set correctly.

• Voltage setting: Use the device's specified voltage setting for the material type.

• Distance setting: Keep the arc end at the same distance from the weld to ensure consistent ignition.
