TIG Dressing
TIG weld seam remelting is a thermal process for smoothing weld transitions by remelting with a TIG torch without filler material. It increases the notch radius and improves fatigue strength.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
TIG weld remelting uses high-performance laser radiation to melt the metal in the weld zone. This process increases the local temperature and allows fine smoothing of the weld transition.
Metallurgical relevance & risks when welding
TIG weld remelting improves the mechanical properties of the weld by increasing the notch radius and reducing stress on the weld. This reduces the occurrence of cracks and increases the service life of components. However, too fast or too long remelting can lead to uneven deformation or excessive melting, which in turn poses risks to structural integrity.
Workshop practice & instructions
To perform TIG weld remelting successfully, the torch should be set at an optimal distance and with suitable energy input. The remelting time should be between 0.5 and 1 seconds to ensure uniform smoothing. Make sure the weld is dry before remelting to avoid distortion.
