GTAW AC Balance

TIG AC balance is the ratio between positive and negative half-cycles in AC TIG welding. It optimizes cleaning action and electrode shape.

Physico-chemical mechanism of action

TIG AC balance affects electrolysis in the weld zone. An optimum balance ensures even material removal and prevents imbalances that could lead to porosity or cracks.

Metallurgical relevance & welding risks

An unbalanced AC ratio can lead to uneven electrode shapes and increased porosity. This impairs the strength of the weld and its mechanical performance.

Workshop practice & instructions

To achieve an optimum TIG AC balance, set the ratio between positive and negative half-cycles to 50:50. This can be ensured by adjusting the welding equipment. Monitor the process continuously and adjust settings as needed to ensure high weld quality.
