Angular distortion
Angular distortion is a change in angle between joined parts due to uneven heat distribution during welding. Often requires mechanical straightening or special welding sequences.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
Uneven heat distribution across the weld cross-section leads to differential expansion and distortion of the parts. This causes relative displacement and angular change between them.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
Angular distortion can lead to mechanical stresses that may cause cracks or fractures. Additionally, it affects the visual and geometric accuracy of the parts.
Workshop practice & instructions
Use uniform heat treatment and controlled welding processes to avoid angular distortion. If problems persist, carry out mechanical straightening or choose suitable welding sequences with low distortion effect.
