Absolute Eddy Current Probe

An eddy current absolute probe measures the magnetic field at one point. It is used in welding shops to check the polarity and strength of electromagnets.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The eddy current absolute probe consists of a magnetic sensor that measures the magnetic field at a specific point. The sensor returns an electrical output voltage that is proportional to the magnetic field.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

In the welding workshop, the eddy current absolute probe is used to ensure that electromagnets are correctly polarized and sufficiently strong. Incorrect polarity or too weak magnetic field strength can cause the workpiece to be positioned incorrectly or the welding process to be incomplete.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To use the eddy current absolute probe correctly, place it in the area of the magnetic field to be measured. The display shows the strength and direction of the magnetic field. For unexpected values, the electromagnets should be checked and calibrated.
